Holistic Dentistry: Personalised Care for Your Whole Health

A gentle, whole-body approach to your smile.

The team at Dental Care Group strives to perform safe, biologically compatible, minimally invasive dentistry. We aim to view dental health in the greater view to support your general health.

At our practice, we believe your oral health is deeply connected to your overall wellbeing. Holistic dentistry looks beyond teeth and gums to understand how materials, lifestyle, and systemic health all work together to influence your smile — and how your smile, in turn, affects the rest of you.

We deal with patients with medical conditions, requiring specific treatment and are happy to discuss materials used to limit impacts to your body.

For those looking for a more natural approach to dentistry, to avoid toxic materials or wishing for an alternative approach to your teeth and gums treatment, look no further.

We always respect the beliefs of our patients and aim not just to improve dental health but also overall health. This information is provided for general information only and should not replace personalised clinical advice from a registered dental practitioner.

What Is Holistic Dentistry?

Holistic dentistry isn’t a separate specialty — it’s an approach that considers the person as a whole. It combines modern, evidence-based dental care with an awareness of biocompatibility, prevention, and lifestyle factors.

For many people, this approach offers:

  • Personalised treatment planning that takes into account medical history, sensitivities, and preferences.

  • A focus on prevention and conservation, preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.

  • Thoughtful material selection designed to suit your individual needs and comfort.

  • Collaborative care, where your dentist may work alongside medical or allied-health professionals to support your broader wellbeing.

Holistic Options You May Wish to Discuss

Every treatment should be explained clearly — including its purpose, evidence, benefits, risks, and alternatives — before you decide whether it’s right for you.

Natural Products and Materials

We are a Mercury free practice and use bio-compatible composite resin filling materials. Ceramic or composite materials may be chosen as alternatives to traditional metal-based crowns or fillings, often for their aesthetic appeal or biocompatibility.

We have a wide range of oral health products and are able to tailor your oral health products to your desires.

Safe amalgam removal

Some patients prefer to have old amalgam fillings replaced with modern materials. When clinically appropriate, this can be done using protective measures to reduce exposure. The decision should always be guided by your individual needs and informed consent.

We perform safe amalgam removal, following the SMART protocol from the IAOMT.

Integrative Collaboration

We are happy to collaborate with your GP, integrative doctor, physiotherapist, nutritionist, naturopath, or sleep specialist when oral conditions are linked to broader health factors — ensuring truly integrated, person-centred care.

Biocompatibility and Material Testing

We understand that some will need to explore potential sensitivities to dental materials. We offer referrals to other practitioners to check for allergies or intolerances to any of the materials we use.

Zirconia implants

Zirconia implants gives patients with titanium allergies and those who want a metal-free approach to replace missing teeth.

They are an aesthetic material while still being extremely durable and tough.

Sleep and airway assessment

Dental Sleep Medicine is one of the most important aspects to discover some of the hidden causes to many dental problems.

We work in a multi-disciplinary team to treat sleep apnoea and other sleeping disorders.

Saliva biome assessment

This protocol looks at the biological aspects of the mouth and it’s effects on the gums, the teeth and many parts of your health.

Also known as the Larkin protocol, we assess the chemical and biological composition of your saliva and can offer simple changes to your oral hygiene regime that may have large affects on overall health.

Ozone and Laser

As part of the Larkin protocol, we offer minimally invasive treatment with biofilm modulation. Ozone can be used in management of gum disease and increase the oxygen availability in the mouth, inhibiting the nasty anaerobic bacteria.

Your Care, Your Choice

Choosing a dental approach is a personal decision. When exploring holistic options, consider asking:
  • What are the benefits and limitations of each treatment?

  • Is there clinical evidence to support this approach?

  • How will the procedure be performed, and by whom?

  • What outcomes can I expect — and what alternatives are available?

Open, informed discussions help you make the choice that feels right for you.

Safety, Evidence, and Professional Standards

All dentists in Australia must be registered with the Dental Board of Australia through AHPRA and adhere to the same national standards of care. This includes practising within their scope, maintaining current knowledge, and obtaining informed consent for every treatment.

While some holistic options have growing research support, others are still emerging. A conscientious practitioner will explain what is well-established, what is developing, and what may be considered complementary.

Our Commitment to You

At our practice, we believe in:
    • Gentle, respectful dentistry that prioritises your comfort and safety.

    • Open communication — so you always understand your options.

    • A partnership approach, where your health goals guide your care plan.

    • Evidence-based decision-making balanced with genuine respect for individual preferences and values.

Your journey to optimal oral health should feel calm, transparent, and empowering.
